Kerrie’s Journey: Week 7

OH MY GOD, we are actually finished our online sessions – where did the time go???? There was some relief that the course was over but it was short lived when deadlines for journals, discussion boards, journals etc.. were mentioned .
Unfortunately I don’t have a dog – has a large crow or a small child ever been substituted for a dog I wonder!!!

Having come to the end I realise that my greatest fear going into the course, technology, [...]

Kerrie’s Journey: Week 6

Well this week brought a new challenge for some of us as we had a twitter tutorial before our session, some people set up twitter accounts during the session while others already had established accounts. Even for the short time we were on it engaging was fun. I don’t know if I could see myself becoming an avid “ tweetererer” or maybe just a twitter twit but time will tell. Like the technology fears we had at the beginning [...]

Kerrie’s Journey: Week 5

I have had a very busy week this week and was away for 4 days attending a dance/variety competition in Trabolgan. I’m afraid no study or reading was done partly due to times constraints but also because of the fact that in order to get any kind of mobile or Wi-Fi signal I had to balance on my tippy toes hanging off the end of some dodgy decking at the far end of the site. I found that this [...]

Kerrie’s Journey: Week 4

I really got my teeth into this week’s session because it explored the issue of the impact of austerity on Ireland and more specifically the impact on the community and voluntary sector. For me this had a very real impact because I lost my job as a result of the cuts imposed. I witnessed organisations “restructure” in favour of maintaining management roles as opposed to maintaining services on the ground. There was an atmosphere of fear and perceived threats [...]

Kerrie’s Journey: Week 3

Well this week has been less manic than the previous ones so I’ve had some breathing space. It has meant that I have had time to engage with the course material, it helps that I really like the module content. I love the discussion board and hope to be a little more active on it in the coming weeks. I find it very helpful and informative to have insight in to other people’s points of view, often because it [...]

Kerrie’s Journey: Week 2

Well it’s been an interesting and busy week considering work, course work and the drama, and by drama I mean the 1916/2016 script that I co-wrote with another student on the course, Kathleen. And being the active citizens that we are, we selflessly or unwittingly also signed up to play two major parts in this drama. This year seems to centre around all things 1916 and is reflecting on the past and how a handful of our citizens changed [...]

Kerrie’s Journey: Week 1

To begin, my name is Kerrie and I am very blessed to be a mother of 5. I have recently returned to work having stayed at home with my children for almost 4 years. While I work in Longford I live in Athlone, Co. Roscommon – although not for long if the Westmeath border extension is successful. At 41 I’m no spring chicken but I firmly believe that learning continues over a lifetime. So, I’m once again going to [...]
